Painting in Acrylics during recent years John has bee able to better express a sense of colour and how it affects our lives. Colour is by far the most exciting aspect of all these paintings. More importantly are the colours that are not expected. Traveling by motorcycle has enabled him to enjoy the beauty of a blooming hillside, nameless waterfalls or the discovery of a little known lake. These are small moments in our lives, we remember not the times, but the moments. He has painted the great outdoors of Northern Ontario, Georgian Bay, Newfoundland, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New England States. Any setting that made a statement, he would find. John’s interpretive landscapes reflect a fresh approach to the wonderment of the outdoors. \"Happy.\" \"Content.\" \"Comfortable.\" \"At ease.\" These are some of the words used to describe John's work. John's paintings have found new homes in private collections and offices across North America."),

A professional figure skater and dancer in her native Budapest, and well-traveled Europe-wide, she began to study Fine Arts seriously after her arrival in Canada in the late 60's. Though she has worked with three-dimensional media in the past, she now prefers to use watercolours, mixed media and oils.<P>Her inspiration often comes from the landscape, which she discovered and explored in detail when she and her family moved out of Toronto to the rolling Ontario countryside. She became involved with the beautiful but difficult properties of the water media, so different from oil painting in approach and philosophy.<P class=quote>\"I am attracted to the translucent quality of watercolour when thin transparent washes are laid over each other and produce a poignant, atmospheric effect.\"<P>The landscape itself proved a challenge, to find a painterly way to its poetry, to find its essence, to capture the feel and mystery of its presence.<P class=quote>\"I would not call myself a realist but my images are rooted in reality. It is my point of departure. Listening to some good music, sometimes my love of colour takes over and I am able to push around large blocks of saturated colour - the joyful freedom of painting.\"<P>Along with an exploration of colour and landscape, Edith's paintings show interest in experimentation with compositional methods using devices such as the higher vantage point, and dramatic diagonal organization of the pictorial field.<P>Edith's work is found in many private and corporate collections in North America and in Europe. Her paintings and sculptures are available at Cannington House Gallery in Oakville."),

Most summer weekends found me paddling or sketching on Lake Ontario’s waterfront anywhere between Frenchman’s Bay in the east and Port Credit to the west. Longer weekends and holidays I’d escape to Algonquin or northwestern Georgian Bay.<P>Eventually, influenced of course by friends Town, Hodgson, Yarwood and Bush, I found myself experimenting, mostly to music, with abstract concepts. This experimentation continues to this day. Some of my mulitmedia collages weigh as much as fifty pounds… perhaps interesting if not 'pretty'."),

new Array("jacksons"," Colour is my first passion. Soft, dry pastels are my chosen medium because they are sensual and visually and physically satisfying, giving vivid results very quickly. It's a versatile and expressive medium, allowing for spontaneity, experimentation and infinite changes-of-mind. In childhood, I loved making art. Since then, looking at and knowing about art and the world of artists have been constants in my life. In my early forties, I enrolled in Sheridan College's Illustration course and graduated in 1991 when computer technology was becoming the future in design. This was not my bag, so in October of 1993 I put commercial art behind me and began to paint for myself. For my still life subjects, I like to paint fruit and ordinary things I have around the house, sometimes presenting something small as if it were monumental. At times, I am inspired by our extensive travels. Rock fascinates me - its colours and textures are intriguing but also are the fossils, lichens, petroglyphs and pictographs found in them and on them. I play with watercolour printmaking and embossing to get textural effects on and in the paper before applying pastels."),

The images I saw then, in particular my father’s large-format work, left an irresistible urge to myself document the magical dance of light and shadow.<P class=quote>\“Today this venerable art form, created via traditional film and wet-darkroom processes, still holds endless possibility. Loading my vintage 8x10 field camera into its case, shouldering the big wooden tripod and setting out with enough film holders to capture an early, misty morning, is my start to a perfect day.<P class=quote>\“The word photography comes from the ancient Greek. It means, literally, writing with light. For me, nothing is more satisfying than framing the wandering interplay of radiance and perception, and the interwoven truths they reveal.\”<P>Doug’s photographs are printed using a platinum/ palladium technique developed in the 1800s, well before silver gelatin became the dominant technology of black and white photography.<P>First the artist mixes and coats a light-sensitive platinum emulsion onto heavy rag paper. When this dries, a large negative, the size of the end print, is placed in firm contact with the coating and exposed to an ultraviolet light source, traditionally the sun. The result, faintly visible after a few minutes or a few hours, is developed to completion in a chemical bath and thoroughly washed.<P>The platinotype images produced through this laborious technique are renowned for their delicacy, luminosity and extraordinary depth.
